The Fear of Ridicule in the Art of Dance | Lecture - Performance | 2017
about the lecture...
This lecture discusses the fear of 'ridicule' in the performing arts and in particular in the art of dance. What is fear? What is ridiculousness?
How might we overcome the fear of ridicule on stage?
All of this could be the blurb on the back cover of a self-help book.
Not bad.
I read somewhere that humour is the weapon of the unarmed because it empowers the oppressed to smile at what causes them pain.
The lecture was first presented as part of the 'Short Lectures in Practice' series organised by Magma dance studio. It was subsequently held as part of the Dance Days Chania 3 and Open September 6 festivals (Vault Theatre Plus).
